Rio Cuale in Puerto Vallarta – A Forgotten Jewel?
Well, not for Hacienda San Angel Guests! In fact, just a stone’s throw away is Isla Rio Cuale, which happens to be one of Puerto Vallarta’s best-kept secrets near our hotel. Ask our concierge for a box lunch to enjoy while you take in the activities at this unique spot.
Isla Rio Cuale’s rushing rivers engulf a green island with diverse flora and fauna. Make sure to sip a margarita at one of the restaurants on the island. If you need to cool off, dip in the river or enjoy air conditioning at the iconic El Incanto Music Club, a unique piano bar.
The Rio Cuale has two hanging wooden bridges that you must cross.
At Isla Cuale’s inland point, there is a cultural center. It offers classes in painting, sculpture, singing, and piano. Additionally, you can chat with others. Moreover, classic white benches are available for resting amid the lush vegetation.
The Isla Rio Cuale was initially considered a play area for the children of Puerto Vallarta almost half a century ago.
A Bronze John Houston monument is located on the island. It was placed to mark the 25th anniversary of his movie The Night of the Iguana, filmed at Mismaloya Beach.
In addition, must-visit is the Archaeological Cuale Museum. During the rainy season, the river runs heavily into the ocean, and at other times of the year, there is just a calm flow that the birds and local children enjoy.
Shopping, Shopping, Shopping! You will find some wonderful vendors selling some must-have souvenirs and, furthermore, Mexican handicrafts.
You can walk back up the stairs to Hacienda San Angel or, alternatively, jump in a taxi, which is only a two-minute ride away.
