Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the rooftops of buildings in Old Town Puerto Vallarta create a charming view.

History of the Church

In 1903, Puerto Vallarta was just a small, quaint fishing village. Later, the municipality began work on the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This view can be enjoyed from many of Hacienda San Angel’s elegant suites. Work began in the early 1900s, and by 1917, the church had a foundation with pillars and a wall.

When a bell was donated, additional construction was added around the church to house priests and VIP visitors. By the 1940s, the Church of our Lady of our Guadalupe had become a community hub, serving as a venue for festivals and celebrations. Its intricate architecture attracted travelers, symbolizing Puerto Vallarta’s rich culture and history.

In the 1950s, enhancements included the famous crown-like structure atop the building, resembling a tiara.
